Szeged World Cup

Hello from Szeged Hungary! Tomorrow morning the second World Cup of the season starts (the first for most of team Canada). It’s a big day for yours truly as I’ve got my 1000m heat at 8:15, the 1000m semi around 11:30am, the 500m heat at around 1:30 and the 500m semi around 3:30. Check the schedule to follow all of team Canada’s results as they come in. It’ll be a good showing with strong representation from most of the best countries in canoe kayak as we’re only really missing the Germans and Russians from what I’ve seen so far.

Warm up for racing

I’ve got a good chance at heading straight to the final in the 1000m which would be nice due to the big racing in the afternoon. I haven’t raced a 500m yet this season so i’m a bit nervous. It’s a different beast from the 1000 but good practice nonetheless. It’s interesting that there are more 500m heats in C1 than 1000m heats (four to three) due to the shift in the Olympic programme from 500m to 200m you’d expect less entries the 500m more in the 1000m and 200m. I guess it’s too long a race for some!
Other than the paddling part of this trip not a whole lot is going on. We’re at a different hotel than previous years, Tamas Senior has a new truck and it’s supposed to rain. Standard.

Here’s a pic of me in the wicked fast Nelo provided for me. When i first saw it i thought it was a left over from 2008. It’s essentially the exact boat i had during that season.
